of Antique Bed Frame.
For many people, an antique bed frame is the ideal sleeping platform. In most cases, these bed frames were made at a time when craftsmanship was everything and every process was completed by hand. They are often typified by classic design elements, resulting in bed frames that are timeless in their aesthetics. They are highly sought after by both the amateur collector and by the avid enthusiast.
Wooden bed frames are often some of the most expensive of antique bedroom furniture pieces. Wood offer’s a unique warmth and luxury that few other materials can reproduce, and it only improves with age. And since it is a material that can be easily formed and shaped; wooden bed frames can range in design from highly decorated and ornate to simple and minimalistic. This variation in style is one of their many selling points, as they can be adapted to a wide variety of modern design aesthetics.
An antique wooden bed, in pristine condition, can often sell for thousands of dollars, especially if the bed is exquisite in its detail and decoration. The many different styles can also range quite a bit in price. A well cared for Corbeille bed, for instance, can sell for as much as $4000; whereas a more simplistic Panel bed in similar condition might only sell for $2000. The difference in price is often a reflection of the popularity of that particular style at any given time. Wooden beds that require a bit of restoration work can be found at bargain prices, provided you’re willing to invest the time and effort it requires to do a quality restoration job.
The iron antique bed frame is also a popular collector’s item. These beds were usually handcrafted from steel and iron by highly qualified craftsmen. They can be highly ornate, depending on the skills of the artisan that created it, and often include intricate castings and other details. The peak of their original popularity was during the late 19th century, in both Europe and North America. However, American models are generally the most sought after by collectors.
Just like their wooden counterparts, antique iron beds were made in a number of different styles. Art Deco, with its bold outlines and geometric patterns, and Art Nouveau, with its highly ornate characteristics, has been popular styles for these beds. The simplistic Austere style became quite popular during the depression era of the early 20th century, and for many collectors, they are still highly prized.
Regardless of whether you prefer iron or wood, there is an antique bed frame for nearly any design criteria. They can often be found through local antiques dealers or via the internet. If you’re looking for a piece that is in prime condition, it is often advisable to seek out a reputable antiques dealer. They are not only experts in the field, but can often help you find items that would be difficult to locate otherwise. However, a quality piece of antique furniture will more than likely not be found inexpensively.
