of Antique Bed Frames.
Antique bed frames are actually just like what the name implies: they are the metal frame that holds a mattress. These frames became prevalent in the 19th century, as metalworking became a large and productive industry. As the industrial revolution swept the West, it became feasible to produce a large number of previously unthinkable luxuries for a relatively low price, raising the standard of living significantly.
The Great War really honed the industrial complex, which doesn’t seem immediately applicable to a discussion on antique bed frames. But when the war subsided, all of the factories that spent their time making mines, ammunition, barbed wire, and tank traps suddenly had no business left. So they converted to making household goods. As you’ve probably guessed by now, antique bed frames are one of the things they made. Of course, they weren’t antiques at the time, but World War I ended more than eighty years ago, so any household goods that are still around from the time easily pass the bar as antiques today. Furniture wasn’t the only beneficiary of the sudden loss of work for the military industrial complex. Pots & pans, irons (and ironing boards) even lawnmowers and knives all benefited from unused factory space and were now available to more people than ever before.
