Some of the most regal beds in existence are the antique empire bed. This type of bed is exceedingly large and ornate with tall headboards and large end boards which often have drawers built into them for added storage. Some will also have drawers under the bed frame keeping valuables safe and close.

An antique empire bed was so large and expensive that they were only owned by the incredibly rich, kings and emperors. They could accommodate large mattresses which also had to be custom fabricated and were often so big that entire walls had to be removed when moving them. A true antique would require some intensive disassembling and reassembling to fit into a modern home and the price hasn’t lowered since the 18th century, they are still unobtainable by most.

An antique empire bed has a few variations in design from solid and sleigh looking to ornately carved woodwork and even functional additions such as hooks, drawers, shelves and mirrors. They are the ship for the mind to pilot while sleeping and what a regal ship at that.
