Antique rope beds are a very popular design for a bed that has been mimicked in many modern designs. They are an evolution of an even early model of bed called the four poster bed which has tall posts on each corner and typically has a curtain on the top and each side which can be pulled closed to prevent draughts which were common in old homes.

Antique rope beds still have four posts, but they typically do not extend as high as a four poster bed and they do not have any curtains. The curtains have slowly lost their appeal due to advances in insulation and heating in homes which can retain a comfortable temperature all night long. The style has been preserved and many posts are ornately carved, some even resemble large wooden ropes.

Antique rope beds can be found in many antique shops and online retailers as well as from private sellers. There are also a number of brand new reproduction rope beds which can be found in furniture stores across the world in a large variety of sizes, finishes and styles.
