of Antique Sleigh Beds.
There are many kinds of beds in the world. You have your mundane box spring/mattress combos on a frame. You have exotically shaped beds in the form of hearts, or even animals. You also have massive four post beds, complete with a canopy and large enough to make moving them an arduous task. There are even ornate beds made from worked iron, which can be starkly beautiful. But antique sleigh beds are a favorite standby of the bedding world. What are antique sleigh beds you may ask?
Well, a sleigh is an item most people are familiar with. It’s a winter conveyance, sort of a wagon on skis. One might draw the conclusion that antique sleigh beds are then beds on skids, or some other form of rail. However this is not the case. Sleigh beds feature curved head boards. Oftentimes they will also sport matching foot boards, although the headboards are nearly always larger. The boards usually curve away from the mattress surface, although some sleigh beds have both sides curving in the same direction.
The curved head board and foot boards are the defining trait of antique sleigh beds, but nearly as ubiquitous is ornamental scrollwork carved into the head and foot boards. These beds are not the ones for a person who merely wants a place to be unconscious, without a care for the stylistic impact of the bed. These are beds for people who want their bedroom to be a beautiful place. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and tastes have been known to vary. But then, so do the styles of decoration on antique sleigh beds.
You can find intricately carved pictures on the headboard, or a Spartan design. You can also find just about anything in between. You want floral designs? You’ve got it. Maze patterns? You can have those too. How about something more exotic, like a star map? Yes, you can even get a star map on your bed. In fact, just about anything you can come up with has probably already been put on an antique sleigh bed.So, if you have discerning tastes, you may want to investigate sleigh style beds. They are a tasteful and a great option for a truly great looking bedroom. A bed is the rightful centerpiece of the bedroom, just look at the name! The entire purpose of the room revolves around sleeping, and it follows from good design principles that the design of the room should also revolve around sleeping. And since we sleep in a bed, the design revolves around the bed. Keep this in mind when planning a bedroom design, and make the bed your first priority, everything else should be planned around it, not the other way around.
