Reproduction Beds

Reproduction beds are a great alternative to true antiques. A true antique tends to be extremely valuable. Things like tea sets are suddenly worth tens of thousands of dollars, if not more. If you then take a look at a bed, which would start in the thousands of dollars anyway, you can only imagine what the cost goes up to. Mortgaging a home to get a bed doesn’t smack of good business practice.

So how do you go about getting the same look as the antique that costs a fortune? You opt instead for a reproduction bed. Reproductions come in two flavors: there are authentic reproductions, and style reproductions. An authentic one creates a bed utilizing period tools and materials. If your bed is wood, it will be held together with pegs and old fashioned wood glue, it will be sculpted with hand chisels and mallets, and the boards will be cut with a hand saw.

As you can imagine authentic reproduction beds are still quite pricy. The beds take months or even years to make, depending on the level of detail involved. If the tag on one still seems out of reach, you can instead go for a style reproduction. It looks like the antique it is based on, but it can be made using modern technology. Machinery takes over the task of much of the menial labor, creating a much less expensive bed. Which type of reproduction better suits your taste depends in large part on which you are willing to pay for.
